Friends of mine set up a photo session for our family. It was gifted to me in September but with Steve having surgery in October, we never got around to doing it. Now that he’s in his last days, we knew we had to make it happen. The photographer was kind enough to come to our house and work with us in taking some pictures.
I dressed us all in blue for colon cancer. And I love the results. We will treasure these photos forever!
We will be a complete family of FOUR in April!!! The newest edition to the Wilmes Family will arrive the end of April and we couldn’t be happier. Today was our first doctor’s appointment and we had an ultrasound and was able to see little Baby W for the first time. It’s little arms and legs were moving around like crazy. A very active baby, guess this one will be just like Holly!! It was so great to see the baby and now it feels so much more real, even though my belly has already begun to grow, this just reassures me that everything is going well.
I am not a big fan of the mall or the craziness that is happening there at the holidays. Plus we don’t live close enough to one to make me want to drag the girls there to take a picture. Call me lazy – but I just hate that place at the holidays! So I’m happy that we now belong to the Westerly Yacht club and each year they have a children’s christmas party and Santa is there, of course! Holly’s getting kind of big to sit on Santa’s lap but she still wants to and I think it’s cute. We met with the surgeon on June 20 2014 that was going to put in the Port-A-Cath on the following Monday. He explained to us that it will sit in the front of his shoulder, just under the skin. It can stay there for as long as we need it and then removed when we are done. He will receive his chemo through the port and have all his blood work drawn from it. This way they don’t have to poke him each time. Of course there are things that can complicate this but those things are rare and probably won’t happen. We are pretty confident that getting the Port is the best way to do it. The surgery was outpatient and pretty simple and…
Allison wants to learn everything Holly learns. When Holly was learning to do math in Kindergarten, Allison learned to do math. When Holly was learning to count by 5’s and 10’s. Allison learned. Allison then figured out how to count by 2’s just by the logic that it was every other number, no one taught her. Allison is smart, and hopefully will continue to enjoy learning new things as she gets older and won’t push school work aside for something else. Holly is in 2nd grade now and she is learning to write cursive and is loving it. Holly has very neat printing and her cursive is looking to be neat as well. She’s still working on it. Steve finished his 8th round of chemo about a week ago. This was the 2nd round of chemo with the reduced 5-FU (along with a reduction of all meds due to his weight loss). The first time he didn’t see much of a difference as far as side effects go, but the second time he did. The 5-FU is responsible for the mouth sores and the tingling in his hands, fingers and feet mostly. I guess it’s also responsible for the exhaustion because this last round he wasn’t as tired either. He thought we has getting a mouth sore but it never really turned into one. And his taste buds finally came back this weekend. When he woke up Friday morning and realize that we…
We got some good news today. Steve’s CEA (tumor marker) number is going down again. It’s currently 18 and was 28 four weeks ago! That’s really good news because that means that the new chemo he started 6 weeks ago is working!!! So the plan right now is to keep doing what they are doing. Steve is also scheduled for a CT Scan the first week of April – the 2nd or 3rd and then they will check his CEA number again on the 6th when we get the results for the CT Scan. Last week was 9 months since Steve was diagnosis and the fact that he’s still doing well and the chemo is still working at this point is really good! Friday, March…
