A Trip to Boston for a Red Sox Game

Steve and I went to a Red Sox game yesterday, just the two of us.  Well we weren’t actually alone, we attended a retirement party for his friend from college who is retiring from the military.  She wanted to have her ceremony and party at a Red Sox game because she is a huge fan.  I was really happy when Steve told me because we probably would not have gone to a game as neither one of us are big fans…… but I’m so glad we did because we had so much fun.

The last time I was at a Red Sox game I was only 19 years old.  I don’t even remember much of it and I certainly didn’t enjoy it the way I did at 40 years old.  Now I appreciate so many more things than I did back then.  It’s an absolutely beautiful stadium right there in the middle of the city, which is very cool.   We arrived really early so we parked right across the street from the stadium and walked around for a bit.  It was nice to be with just Steve but all we did was talk about the girls.

We were let into the stadium pretty early since we were there for the retirement ceremony first.  So we walked around half of the stadium and was able to see them warm up.  It was stunning, absolutely stunning.  I was very happy to be there.  The ceremony was great and lasted about 45 minutes.  Then we headed to the section where our seats where which brought us around the other side of the stadium.  We sat right under the Cumberland Farms sign and had great seats.

It was overcast all day which worked out well because otherwise we would have roasted in the sun.   We were pretty squished in our seats but made the best of it and just enjoyed being together and the game.  We don’t take much time to do things just the two of us and we discussed how we have to do that more often.  And of course we talked about the girls all day and how much they would have enjoyed being there.  We plan on taking them next year for sure and they were so happy when we told them.

If it was earlier in the season then I would have insisted we go this year but it’s too late now and we are already back to school.
