When it Rains…….It’s POURS

Steve and I thought we’d do some redecorating this week since we have nothing else to do. Oh wait, we are having a baby in a week, what are we thinking?? Oh that’s right we had no choice when the water starting leaking though the ceiling in the dining room and coming up from the cracks in the floor in the basement TV room. That’s right, we had to have them cut holes in our ceiling and pull up our rug downstairs. I forget we had no choice.

Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?? I’m trying to keep a smile on my face through this entire thing but it’s not easy. I just seemed to get the house in pretty good order this past weekend. It’s nice and clean, laundry was up to date, the nursery was all put together, downstairs was almost all organized and then the nor’easter came to New England and dropped about 3 inches of rain on our house and all you know what broke loose.

As some of you already know, we have problems with water coming into the garage when it rains a lot. We pretty much have that under control until this spring when we can actually have it fixed. We were prepare for that on Sunday. What we weren’t prepared for was for the water to come through the foundation like it did. Our TV room in the basement has had the rug pulled up a few times already due to water and we were told one more time we’d have to replace it. Well that one more time happened Sunday when water came up under the rug, through cracks in the floor. But that wasn’t the best part. While Steve was downstairs trying to keep up with all the water coming in, I was upstairs trying to figure out what the sound was I kept hearing. All of a sudden I realized that water was dripping from the ceiling in the dining room. At this point we didn’t know if the ceiling was going to come down or if we had time. This was all new to us. We asked a friend to come over to help Steve move everything out of the dining room just in case. (All my pictures and scrapbooks are there too, that could be a tragedy in itself! LOL). We called the insurance company and they sent some guys over to help us out.

They cut 2 holes in our ceiling and pulled out all the insulation that was soaked and set us up with some blowers to dry out the ceiling an a dehumidifier. Then downstairs they pulled up the rug and set up more blowers and another dehumidifier. There is no quiet in my house right now and it’s driving me crazy.

Here are some pictures of the dining room..

Doesn’t this look like fun??? Oh did I mention that we are having a baby in one week and doing home repairs. Hey we figure why not right? Steve will be home and he’ll need something to do. We don’t want him to be bored. Again, do you hear the sarcasm in my voice??

This was the week I was supposed to sit back, relax, and get some rest before surgery. Oh well, life has a way of through curve balls and this is just one. It could be worse, that’s what I keep telling myself.

We’ve got them working on things already so we are hoping the the roof and ceiling can get repaired ASAP, then we will deal with the downstairs a little later, we just won’t have a TV room down there for a while.

My parents are coming over tonight to help us at least get what we did have to move around, some what organized so I don’t feel so overwhelmed. Also since we will be having visitors when the baby comes home, I’d like the house to be a little bit more presentable.

I’m trying to stay positive and just think about how wonderful it’s going to be to meet our newest little girl next week and everything else will fall into place and I know we’ll get lots of helping making sure it does.

I hope you all had a better weekend then we did.

I will leave you with these pictures of Holly practicing for baby sister to arrive. She’s feeding Dora and then giving her a kiss. She’s going to make a GREAT Big Sister, I just know it!!!

  2. Oh Karen! I hope the skies get sunny soon and all of this will be a distant memory when the baby arrives. And someday you’ll have quite a story to tell her!
Let us know if there’s anything we can do – I mean it! Take care and try to get some sleep!

  3. Karen –
I can’t believe you are going through that. Just remember to relax (plus you will be in the hospital for a few days). I can’t wait to see your new little one!
